Meet Brigader Mustafa Kaghazwala

Meet
BRIGADER:
      Mustafa Kaghazwala

Western University of Health Sciences, Medical Student Year 2

ABOUT MY TRIP:

"The trip with Global Medical Brigades to Nicaragua was overall a fantastic experience for me. I got the chance to be immersed in a culture other than my own and I got the privilege of giving medical aid to people who really needed it."

"Overall, I really enjoyed the chance I got to work with Ivy and Dr. Mumford. They both allowed me to do a history, make a clinical diagnosis, and make a recommendation as to what pharmaceuticals should be given. This experience really allowed me to learn a lot and made me feel like a doctor in training as opposed to just a student with all the studying I do for classes in the states. "

"Also, we all got an opportunity to go to a waterfall in Nicaragua the last day we were there. It was amazing going to such a beautiful waterfall and having the entire thing all to ourselves."

Recapturing THE BRIGADE -
Ronica, Raj, Riki, and myself (Mustafa) placing medications into smaller bags to be distributed to patients later.

An elderly women came into the clinic with both legs bandaged from ankle to toe. I was instructed to remove the bandages and I was immediately taken aback by the lack of skin and gross muscle I was seeing. This poor lady due to circumstances I am unfamiliar with had undergone a muscle graft several weeks prior. We were instructed to clean the raw tissue in front of us and re-bandage her with our clean supplies.

Myself, Riki, and Jolan taking a little break from our latrine construction to hang out with some of the local children.
After the completion of the construction we engraved our names into the cement on the wall of the latrine.
