Meet Brigader Winnie Nhan

Meet
BRIGADER:
      Winnie Nhan

Western University of Health Sciences, Medical Student Year 2

ABOUT MY TRIP:

Qs: What did this GMB trip in Nicaragua meant or do for you?

GMB trip pretty much reinforced my decision for my current track and increased my interest in doing medical work abroad in the future. It was a great time and really brings things into perspective, especially how much we take certain things for granted like the availability of medication. I remember seeing a patient that has a history of epilepsy and her last attack was the day right before she came to the clinic. The reason for it? She ran out of meds about a month ago. These patients, their only source of medication comes from us and these GMB efforts. These trips definitely showcase the need for efforts to be made to Nicaragua.

What was your favorite or funniest moment that you can highlight?
We really just had to make do with the limited supplies we have. Oddest moment of my time there: doing  an urine pregnancy test from a plastic bag because we couldn't find cups.

Working extra late to make sure we were caught up with medications and pharmacy station!
